Richard Wentworth
Synopsis
For my presentation, I chose to interpret the work of Richard Wentworth. Wentworth has been monumental in both photography and sculpture, and is well known for his ongoing collection, entitled "Making Do and Getting By". His most recent publicaton of "Making Do and getting by" was released in 2016. This collection focuses on documenting the unnoticed aspects of everyday life. Wentworth's contributes interpretive, theoretical, and ethical photography that shines a light on the binary solutions human innovate. His photos showcase human's creativity in solving ordinary occurences. Wentworth is currently expanding his collection while also educating the next generation of artists in his role as a curator and educator in London.
Reflection
Richard Wentworth’s photography changed the perspective of photography by illustrating the beauty of the unnoticed aspects of life. By his choice to document human innovation in problems that resonate with the human experience, his eye made me rethink what makes an image worthy and aided in my reconstruction of why to photograph. It poses the bigger question to the viewer: what should be photographed, and what is often left out. I want to use his eye for the upcoming project to recenter my perspective on what deserves to be photographed. It will expand my ability to appreciate beauty in the unnoticed and mundane aspects of everyday life. Throughout my experience learning about Wentworth, it has inspired me to visit the Lisson Gallery in New York to experience his artistic approach firsthand.

Photographic Voice Emulating Richard Wentworth
Course Goals and Achievements
On my About Me page, I spoke about my goals for this course. I want to deepen my understanding of portrait photography and expand the range of subjects in my photos. Throughout the class, I chose to challenge myself, but I did fall back on what is stereotypically photographed. In the upcoming assignment, it will force me to grow to capture a different style of photography, exemplifying and practicing my goal. Other than converting an image to black and white, the majority of my pictures were not edited and thus failed to meet one of my course goals. I feel that I succeeded with my third goal in the “Dozen Photography Challenge,” which required us to use different lighting, which helped grow my knowledge of the practice. Overall, I thought the “Dozen Photography Challenge” and “Emulating a Photographer” were the most insightful assignments, which helped me achieve my goals. However, for the future, I need to challenge myself by learning how to edit my photos.
