Emulating a Professional Photographer

"Dangling Prices"
"Dangling Prices"

This is my most successful image since it utilizes the rule of odds and is the most inviting to the viewer. Compared to the other pictures, the photo offers intrigue similarly to how Richard Wentworth can. The most challenging aspect of this assignment was thinking about Wentworth's eye. As his photography and sculpture often highlight the unseen aspects of life and appreciating human invention to "make do". This image exemplifies that mindset because it highlights and photographs an everyday occurrence of stringing price tags onto items for sale. It aesthetically shows the beauty of the price tags dangling on the varied products. For the future, I will work to photograph in different spaces. In these images, I visited Lewes to photograph the stores and buildings, which left me wondering what Wentworth might have captured. Choosing to practice this eye would have been more successful in a city, which is where I plan further to grow my exercise of this style of photography.

I love the composition of your photo, the way the price tag dangles draws my eye in right away and adds a cool sense of depth. The colors are rich without feeling overdone, and I think your use of focus really complements the subject. It’s a fun, almost surreal moment captured in such a clean and intentional way. The only thing I might experiment with is a slightly shallower depth of field to make the tag pop even more, but honestly, this is such a strong image as is!

It immediately drew me in and it gives the image a nice balance. I also thought the lighting and colors made everything feel super warm and inviting. I noticed how all the little details, like the price tags and textures, were in clear focus, which fits perfectly with the everyday beauty you mentioned and Wentworth’s style. You did a great job capturing a simple moment and making it feel special. If anything, I’d be curious to see how the image might look if it was taken from a…
